Die Stadt z\u00e4hlt 20&#8217;000 Einwohner und ist das Herz der gagausischen Kultur, einer christlich-orthodoxen Volksgruppe, die eine eigene Sprache spricht. Die Region Gagausien ist stark landwirtschaftlich gepr\u00e4gt, insbesondere auch durch den Weinbau. Auff\u00e4lligstes Geb\u00e4ude in der Stadt ist die Kathedrale St. Johannes der T\u00e4ufer, eine markante, orthodoxe Kirche im Stadtzentrum.
