Auf Finnisch heisst sie Kristiinankaupunki. Die Mehrheit der Einwohner ist schwedischsprachig, weshalb in der Regel der schwedische Name verwendet wird. Das finden wir gut so, denn Kristinestad geht uns sp\u00fcrbar leichter \u00fcber die Lippen als Kristiinankaupunki. Die Stadt liegt an einem sogenannten Fj\u00e4rd,einer offenen Meeresbucht, die durch die Erosion von Gletschern entstanden ist.
